Her words changed the world.

U.S. Congressman John Larson at the Stowe Center

On June 3, the Stowe Center broke ground on our Collections Preservation project.  The project will expand and improve storage for the Stowe Center's historic collections by installing fire supression; upgrading HVAC; installing compact storage equipment; improving the roof; and adding insulation to the Center's collection storage vault.

The project, designated a We the People project by the National Endowment for the Humanities, is also supported by funding from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving; a  Save America's Treasures award from the National Park Service; and United Technologies Corporation.

The Stowe Center thanks Congressman John Larson and his staff, for their unstinting support and commitment to the Stowe Center and our mission to inspire civic engagement.  In addition, Senators Christopher Dodd and Joseph Lieberman and their staffs helped to shepherd our request for federal support.

With more than 200,000 items, including original manuscripts and correspondance between Stowe and other 19th-century activists, our collections tell significant stories about Stowe's profounding and lasting impact on America.

Two Pulitzer Prize recipients have used our collection in the past 20 years - we look forward to continuing to offer access to our collections to scholars, students and visitors.
